Our Founders

I was raised in the greater Waynesboro area and now, my husband and I are raising our two boys in this community that we call home.  Growing up, I played school more than anything else.  Yes, I was that kid.  I would beg my friends, my little sister, my sister’s friends, anybody I could, to be my students.  I have known, undoubtedly, for most of my life that God was calling me to become a teacher and I have always been incredibly passionate about it.  I went to public school in Waynesboro from kindergarten to twelfth grade.  I then went on to receive my bachelor’s degree in Mid-Level Education from Shippensburg University.  As I was going through college, I thought that God was calling me to be an educator so that I could show His love to the children in my area by teaching in the public school district that I grew up in.  After I graduated from college, I quickly realized the doors God had opened for me and led me to, were private Christian schools.  I really enjoyed being in positive, Christian work environments and having smaller class sizes; however, I found myself wanting to use a less traditional approach to education.  I want to meet students where they are and use blended teaching methods so each student can confidently master the curriculum.  It was in that season that opening a Christian school in my home town started to become a real possibility.  I knew that the closest Christian schools are all about 30-45 minutes away in a few different directions.  That distance didn’t seem like much until I was driving it to work and taking my son to school.  I was blessed to have an opportunity to talk with someone who had just gone through the process of opening a Christian school and I felt very encouraged.  I began to pray more specifically for God’s direction.  More and more I felt that opening a Christian school in Waynesboro is the way that I’m supposed to use my gift and calling to show God’s love in my community.  The Lord started opening doors and putting the right people in my path that would help me make the dream a reality, further confirming that this was my calling.  I am so excited to bring Christian education to the greater Waynesboro area and see what God has in store for our amazing community!

I was born and raised in Waynesboro.  I have lived most of my adult life here, raised two wonderful daughters here with my amazing husband of 35 years, and now see my grandchildren enjoy this town I call home.  Over the last two decades, I have worked in various programs focused on helping children in many different aspects.  Through these experiences the Lord laid on my heart a great need in our area.  Our most precious and vulnerable group of people were in need, our children.  In the Spring of 2022, our oldest daughter came to us excited and passionate feeling that the Lord has called her to start a Christian school for the greater Waynesboro area.  We prayed about it, and both feel that this is what the Lord is asking us to step into for this season of our lives.  We want to be obedient to that and have already seen the Lord’s hand in this process.  With the help of our family and friends that God has placed in this journey with us, we went to work to bring this dream to fruition.  I am anxiously waiting to see the amazing things that the Lord is going to do in our community through Damascus Road Christian Academy.
